The water filter you use to rinse your dishes, wash your hair and disinfect your clothes could be the key to preventing the spread of some nasty bacteria, according to a new study.
The research from the University of Exeter suggests that using a water filter can be effective in removing some bacteria from water that is still raw, which could help fight off the spread.
“We’re looking at a number of factors, including how the bacteria is present in the water and how the water quality is,” Professor David Brown, from the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University, told the BBC.
“One of the things that we know from the environment is that there is a lot of water in the environment, and that water can contain a lot more bacteria than we think.”
Mr Brown said the water filters he tested had a water chemistry that allowed them to work in an environment where bacteria was present, rather than a neutral environment.
“It’s possible that it’s not as effective at removing some of the bacteria as the other types of filters, but we’re not sure yet,” he said.
“I’d be surprised if it wasn’t.”
Water filters have been used for decades, and are still in widespread use in some parts of the world.
The water filters are made up of metal plates, which are connected to a series of valves.
The plates filter out the water from a water source, while the valves are used to allow the water to pass through.
This allows the water source to be disinfected, while preventing the bacteria from multiplying.
“They’re not the only type of filter that can be put on your washing machine, and they’re not necessarily the best, but they’re effective,” Professor Brown said.
The filters are able to filter out 99.9 per cent of the water that enters them, while only a tiny amount of water gets filtered out.
“You don’t need a huge amount of filter capacity to do the job,” Professor Gray said.
Dr Brown said that water filters had been used in water treatment systems for decades.
“If you have water that has got a bad pH, it might not get filtered out, so you can’t use a water treatment system to remove it,” he explained.
“The filter has got an anti-bacterial effect and also filters out some of your other pathogens as well, and it does all this with the same amount of effort.”
The researchers said that some people might need to wait a bit longer before getting their water filters.
“A few years ago I used a shower with a very high-quality filter, and the filter had actually worked quite well,” Professor Grey said.
